Several vacant Executive Board positions have been now filled with the announcement in early April by Teamsters Local 938 President, Craig McInnes of the appointment of Omkar Maraj as Trustee.
“We had to put a lot of time into our selection” McInnes added, “because it is extremely important that everyone on the board represents the same goals, interpretation and passion as the rest of us if we are to go forward collectively and follow our established plans for the Local successfully. As well, the Board must be representative of all aspects of our membership and I think we have been able to achieve that through our selection process. We had plenty of excellent candidates to choose from and those that weren’t selected need not be offended. There are plenty of opportunities in this local to be active and involved.”
McInnes elaborated on the three new members of the Board. “Vice President John Gorman, since becoming a Business Agent, has demonstrated a unique ability to take on a significant workload all by himself and get the job done without difficulty. He is always there and never complains. A member can call at 3:00 a.m. and John will be there. Total dedication and perseverance are his greatest qualities. Trustee Mike Broderick represents our desire to seek out and attract new young members to the union” he said. “He’s a very impressive young man, intelligent, very passionate about other people and brings some welcome new fresh ideas to the Board. Trustee Amkar Maraj has been through some pretty tough experiences in organizing and has come through it all with flying colours and no complaints. His knowledge and ability will certainly strengthen our team.
